FMP Post - Production

This week has been a productive week for the FMP. I have spent the week on filming the shots required for each topic.

At the beginning of the week, I decided to use a structure of filming for the first topics as they required A-Roll and B-Roll while the other two only required A-Roll as the B-Roll will be created digitally at a later date.

The structure would begin with filming B-Roll for the A-Roll from the previous day and then record the A-Roll for a new topic. On Monday, I begun by recording the A-Roll of Setting Up Equipment. As this was the first shoot, on every shoot I make sure that all the equipment I will be using is ready for use such as the camera, radio-mic, SD Card, Greenscreen etc. There was an issue with the camera recording to a specific SD card. The camera could not record and write the video to the SD card quick enough which would make the camera stop recording automatically. To overcome this, I decided to use another SD card to substitute the malfunctioning one, this fixed the issue. After I was done recording all the A-Roll, it was time to log the footage.

The next day I begun with filming the B-Roll for the Setting Up Equipment video. To achieve this, I used the Canon Camera as a prop to demonstrate how to set it up and used my Nikon camera to capture the footage. After the B-Roll was captured, I could then record the A-Roll for the Manual Camera Settings Video. After all the filming, I went to log the footage.

I was now left with recording the 'Shot Sizes and Angles' video and the Interview and Dialogue scenes video.

During my filming, I had to record some pickup scenes for a number of reasons. Because I had to record a lot of takes for the A-Roll, It meant that the battery on the camera, radio mic and the LED Panel light was losing battery. For the radio mic, I would not notice that the mic had died until a few recording in, forcing me to pickup the scenes were the radio mic was not on.

The camera wasn't much of an issue as when one battery dies, I would simply replace it with a fully charged battery and charge the dead one and repeat the process, I also had the camera connected to a monitor where I can see the camera display, making sure the camera wouldn't stop recording half way through.

As for the LED Light Panel, overtime the power of the light would decrease as the light was left on for a long time and would make me look dark in shots where I needed to be keyed out from the greenscreen. When I noticed this, I replaced the batteries with fully charged batteries and charged the dead ones again.

All the shots have now been completed and the Post-Production stage can begin.

Here are a few production stills I'd taken during the week
